Episode Six - Mr Vampyre

In this episode we look into one of the most famous parties of all time, as we go to the Villa Diodati to see Lord Byron, Mary Shelley and Dr John Polidori. Each in their own way responsible for making the modern horror landscape. But why is Polidori almost forgotten? We look at the troubled life and career of the angry young man, and investigate the role a thriving intellectual scene in Norwich became a safe haven for him.

Hallowed Histories Extra - Frankenstein at the Talos Festival

Richard Hand's play, the Devil at Midnight, opens tonight at the Great Hall Theatre in Norwich. In honour of this we present an earlier work he directed. Recorded live at the Bread and Roses pub in March of this year, the UEA Radio Players present a new interpretation of Frankenstein. Hosted by the chilling Bella Donna, this was the closing performance of the second Talos Festival of science-fiction theatre. In the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley's masterpiece, Hallowed Histories is proud to present a fresh look at an old monster.

Hallowed Histories Extra - Richard Hand on Brian Clemens's 'The Devil At Midnight'

At the end of June, the Great Hall Theatre in Norwich will be hosting a production of chilling psychodrama 'The Devil At Midnight'. This will be directed by Richard Hand, a lecturer at UEA and a seasoned veteran of many other productions, all with a suitably twisted edge. We sat down with Richard to discuss the play, and it's author, the cult writer and Avengers creator, Brian Clemens.

Portrait of Love by Neil Walker - Hallowed Histories Present Ghost Stories for Christmas

The last story in out ghost stories for Christmas strand is a little different. Neil Walker's tale of suicide, artists and a memory-haunted Florence has all the ingredients of a classic macabre tale, but then wrong-foots you into something else entirely.

Dark Eyes by Johnny Raspin - Hallowed Histories Present Ghost Stories for Christmas

Next up is Johnny Raspin, with his story 'Dark Eyes'. Johnny is not only a born writer, but also (as you will hear), a born storyteller. He breathes life into this Gothic chiller through his words and his delivery, making you almost feel like you were there. Although given the kind of people who creep the dark corridors of Chillingham orphanage, where 'Dark Eyes' is set, that may put you a little too close for comfort.
