Episode Six - Mr Vampyre

In this episode we look into one of the most famous parties of all time, as we go to the Villa Diodati to see Lord Byron, Mary Shelley and Dr John Polidori. Each in their own way responsible for making the modern horror landscape. But why is Polidori almost forgotten? We look at the troubled life and career of the angry young man, and investigate the role a thriving intellectual scene in Norwich became a safe haven for him.

This episode was sponsored by Liberty Restaurant, American inspired cuisine in the heart of Norfolk's Wroxham Broads

Hallowed Histories Extra - Richard Hand's The Empty House

Continuing our season of Richard Hand productions, we present a story originally written and recorded for the online horror journal, Revenant. It's a real chiller, combining Richard Hand's love of sound to create atmosphere with a classic haunted house yarn. It was performed by Richard Hand and James Langham.

Hallowed Histories Extra - Interview With Vincent M. Gaine

On the first of July, 2.45pm, the Hallowed Histories team will be hosting a screening of Guillermo Del Toro's The Devil's Backbone at Norwich's Cinema City. This is part of the Philosophers At The Cinema strand, developed by UEA and Picturehouse Cinemas, and masterminded by Doctor Vincent M. Gaine. The wonderfully erudite Dr Gaine came into the Hallowed Histories studios to talk about the project, accompanied by Hallowed Histories own Dr Linda Sheppard to talk about The Devils Backbone.

Apologies for the sound quality on this one, a few technical issues.

Portrait of Love by Neil Walker - Hallowed Histories Present Ghost Stories for Christmas

The last story in out ghost stories for Christmas strand is a little different. Neil Walker's tale of suicide, artists and a memory-haunted Florence has all the ingredients of a classic macabre tale, but then wrong-foots you into something else entirely.

We're going to be making the short story readings a regular part of the Hallowed Histories line-up, so please keep on checking back. If you're a writer or voice actor who wants to get involved, please contact us at hallowedhistories@gmail.com

Selected Entries from the Diary of Lillian Vicarage by Liza Blackman - Hallowed Histories Present Ghost Stories for Christmas

Next up is Liza Blackman, with a vampire story inspired by the great-grandfather of all vampire stories, John Polidori's 'The Vampyre'. It's a cracking story, full of passion, romance and gore. The way Liza handles the tone changes is masterful, and we hope you enjoy hearing 'Selected Entries from the Diary of Lillian Vicarage' as much as we did.

Dark Eyes by Johnny Raspin - Hallowed Histories Present Ghost Stories for Christmas

Next up is Johnny Raspin, with his story 'Dark Eyes'. Johnny is not only a born writer, but also (as you will hear), a born storyteller. He breathes life into this Gothic chiller through his words and his delivery, making you almost feel like you were there. Although given the kind of people who creep the dark corridors of  Chillingham orphanage, where 'Dark Eyes' is set, that may put you a little too close for comfort.
